A1-Expanding Adoption for FTTH Worldwide - LIGHTWAVE - Tim Pritchard / Stephen Hardy
Carriers around the world are taking a close look at whether a fiber-to-the-home fits their business strategy. This presentation looks at deployment trends worldwide, with an emphasis on North America and Europe. The speakers will highlight the different factors that are shaping each market, as well as the technologies that are being used now and those that show promise for the future.

A2-Developing impetus of FTTX in China - China Netcom - Xiongyan Tang
In the speech, an introduction will be made to the current development and characteristics of the FTTX in China. Analysis will be made about the driving forces underlying the optical access development in terms of the business demand and market competition. The speech will also discuss the requirements for broadband access in order to realize the IPTV/Triple Play. It explains the major challenges confronting China in the development of the optical access, compares EPON, GPON and other optical access technologies from different angles and puts forward the development strategies and selection principles of technologies in the optical access field in combination with actual cases.

A3-Promoting Sustainable Development of Broadband Optical Access Network-PMC Sierra-Steven Haas
The presentation will review the next challenges in FTTH technology, specifically EPON, GPON and 10GEPON. Each technology is in a different phase of development, which creates different challenges on the road to mass deployment. EPON is interoperable and deployed on a wide scale and now has a challenge of adding more advanced diagnostics and management solutions. GPON has the challenge of reaching a high level of interoperability that is required for mass deployment and 10GEPON is seen as the backward compatible, next-generation technology challenged by the cost of the optical components.

A4-High Capacity EPON – The Winning Solution For All FTTx Networks - Teknovus - Mark Jiang
EPON is the winning PON architecture in Asia, based on its performance, cost, flexibility and availability. Now Teknovus and carriers are focusing on meeting the demands of High Capacity Networks, generated by: (1) increasing demand for IPTV and advanced video services and (2) high subscriber densities (MDUs). Mark Jiang will present Teknovus’ High Capacity EPON solutions for the China market.

A5-Removing the last bottleneck in Internet infrastructure by passive optical networks - Cortina - Dr. Zino Chair
Historically, Internet was designed to carry data traffic only since its inception. In the last decade, traditional voice traffic has increasingly been delivered over Internet. In the next decade, video or IPTV will be dependant upon Internet infrastructure for delivery and distribution. Internet traffic growth continues to exceed Moore’s law by doubling the volume every 12 months in the foreseeable future.

Until recently, broadband access network remains the last bottleneck in the Internet infrastructure. This situation is changing, thanks to the application of passive optical networks such as EPON and GPON. This presentation demonstrates the paradigm shifts of broadband access networks by the introduction of passive optical networks, from traditional point-to-point architecture to point-to-multi-point architecture, from centralized subscriber management to distributed management, and so on. Particularly, it illustrates the current advancement in network design and management of passive optical networks.

A6-GPON Innovation for Cost and Power - Broadlight - Raanan Gewirtzman

With the rapid uptake of GPON throughout the world and the success of GPON interoperability tests, technology innovators are investing in lower cost and power semiconductor solutions for both ONT and OLT equipment. This paper will provide an update on GPON technology innovation, the results of the recent interoperability tests and reveal the significant environmental and cost saving impact that GPON has over other broadband access solutions.

This presentation will introduce the research and evaluation of FTTH related technologies carried out by China Telecom, including the achievements in promoting EPON IOP and progress of GPON research and test. The overall strategies of developing broadband optical access network in China Telecom will be proposed.

B2-Engaging in FTTH Mass Deployments - Alcatel-Lucent - BenjaminReboun

The last couple of years, a number of FTTH access networking technologies have been introduced - amongst which Active Ethernet, PON and point-to-point fiber. The purpose of this session is to outline how players around the world have identified, selected and deployed the topology that fits best their FTTH deployment scenarios. During this workshop, we will share how service providers, municipalities and utility companies have tackled their respective FTTH deployments - based on PON, point-to-point fiber, Active Ethernet or a mixture of technologies.

After the field experiment, trial & small commercial deployment, FTTH grows very fast this year worldwide. EPON, the mainstream of FTTH access technology, is suitable to supporting Data, Voice & Video services access. To meet carrier-class requirements & large scale deployments, FTTH system should provide sound management & operation features. As a famous FTTH total solution provider, Fiberhome has conducted many research & experiments in EPON multi-services supporting architecture & system level OAM. Fortunately, Fiberhome has achieved “per user per service” Service Level Agreement enforcement, accompanied with ONU remote management via extended OAM. It will play a vital role in the coming FTTH commercial application upsurge.

In China, FTTH technology is already in the fast lane. Some operators have set out the commercial deployment of EPON on a large scale, and GPON is also tested and trialed by many operators. How to reliably msanage and control services in FTTH networks and how to efficiently operate FTTH networks are two of most important issues for FTTH mass deployment. The speechmaker will present his ideas about FTTH service mode, service management & control in FTTH systems, operation & management of FTTH networks, OSS for FTTH networks, requirements for FTTH equipments and EMS, etc.
